Care guide
Sterling silver jewelry
- Store in an airtight container: Exposure to air causes sterling silver to tarnish over time. Store your jewelry in a sealed plastic bag, anti-tarnish cloth, or a jewelry box with anti-tarnish strips.
- Keep it dry: Moisture accelerates tarnishing. Avoid wearing your sterling silver jewelry while showering, swimming, or exercising.
- Avoid chemicals: Perfumes, lotions, household cleaners, chlorine, and hand sanitizers can react with silver, leading to discoloration. Repeated exposure to hand sanitizer, especially alcohol-based ones, may weaken soldered areas in rings over time. Apply beauty products before putting on your jewelry and remove rings before using hand sanitizer when possible.
- Cleaning: Use a jewelry polishing cloth to remove tarnish and restore shine. Mild soap and water can be used for cleaning, but ensure the jewelry is dried thoroughly afterward. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
Gemstone jewelry
Most gemstones can be cleaned using warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush without causing damage.
- Porous stones (lapis lazuli, onyx, chalcedony, turquoise, pearl): absorb water and chemicals, which can cause discoloration, structural weakening, or even long-term damage.
- Non-porous stones (natural or lab-made sapphire, ruby, garnet, amethyst): do not absorb liquids, making them more resilient to water exposure, but they can still be affected by harsh chemicals.
